Profile Information

What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?): Continuing to practice its own concept of 'total theatre', Theatro Technis provides a number of services to the community emanating from staging its own in-house productions and hosting theatrical presentations by innovative companies from all over the world.

Our concept of theatre has always run in parallel with our activities as a 'community centre' in addition to being a 'performance venue'. We provide something more than 'just' entertainment, and therefore we continue to act as an advisory service for the local community around us in Camden Town. This in turn ensures that our 'themes' emanate from the evolving daily realities and often the difficulties and not just the 'joys' in the life-experience of our members and our broader community. We are above all a community as well as being a venue which lives the daily reality of theatre as constant rehearsal, with performances which provide feedback from our audience which in turn informs our rehearsals and, we like to think, improves our actions.

Having always had a strong ethos of volunteerism we offer short-term placement experience to local school children interested in finding out about a career in the arts and we always welcome longer-term input from persons seeking practical experience of the many-faceted skills which modern theatre requires.

Our performance venue and studio hire facilities have recently been enhanced with an intenet cafe to enable web-borne communication. This in turn has enabled our expansion into the worlds of myspace, facebook and this site among the many networking tools which enable a wider spectrum of interactivity with our activities, so we do look forward to whatever feedback we receive from members of this site.

My Quick CV: Theatro Technis celebrated its 50th Anniversary during 2007 by creating a new website as well as placing online a significant web-borne video archive of selected recent theatrical events presented at its venue in London's Camden Town, and also selected items from previous decades.

The first thing that inspired me in theatre...: Ancient Greek Theatre originally, though in subsequent years in a UK context, the improvisational style created by Joan Littlewood at the Theatre Royal in Stratford East, with whom Theatro Technis founder and Artistic Director George Eugeniou had worked during his early years in the UK.

The thing that annoys me about our industry...: Institutional indifference to the funding needs of minority interests and small theatre groups
