What I do... (Actor, director, designer, teacher etc?)
I set up and run theatre projects. I make things happen - usually too many ideas and not enough money, but through hard work and a great team, they exist.

I began life as a ballet dancer and 'fell' in to theatre through helping someone set up a touring theatre company. What I thought would be a bit of work in between dance jobs was 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. I designed and made all the scenery and costumes and the publicity (in the days of Rotring pens and Lettraset). Nowadays I occasionally help friends with scenery and costumes as a break from organising things and worrying about funding.
My Quick CV
I run the Masterclass programme at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It's an amazing free resource for anyone aged 17-30 - we use the stage for masterclass events and also run career advice sessions. We've just set up an apprentice scheme for people to get their first major job working alongside Jonathan Kent. I also do freelance fundraising, organisational development and marketing with other companies such as Montage Theatre Arts in Lewisham.

My only work outside of theatre was for Barnardo's; I set up their Big Toddle. ED Berman at Inter-Action employed me for over 6 years running a project for Professor Dogg's Troupe. Starlab worked with actors teaching astronomy in a portable, inflatable planetarium....national touring, training teachers, science festivals and even a rave once! I learned a lot.

My company was Pro Panto Productions and also Curtain-Up! Children's Theatre Company, touring England in transit vans. And before that was ballet, with lots of different small companies in London and the regions.
The first thing that inspired me in theatre...
After starting the Curtain-Up! company, I met writer Peter Corey and got permission to put on one of his plays 'Words & Music'. The experience of theatre's collaboration, working with director Howard Leader and two talented actors, creating what was, for me, a totally new type of theatre, made me realise just what was possible and how much there was to think about.
My favourite theatre something is...
The rehearsal room
The thing that annoys me about our industry...
When you talk to some people and they're always looking over your shoulder

Free musical theatre career talk - 17 July

In a shameless way, I want to point people to a free talk we're holding tomorrow, Tues 17 July, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket London as part of the Masterclass programme. If you or anyone you know is starting out in musical theatre, or thinking about training for it, this is a really benefical afternoon.

This is a panel discussion and Q&A led by casting director David Grindrod, one of the leaders in his field in musical theatre. He's joined by Musical Director Michael Haslam who's…

Thank you for the add. Such a shame I couldn't make it to the 2 masterclasses last week but I've really enjoyed all of the other ones I've been to and I'm looking forward to the next ones!
